Welcome to the Adobe Photoshop Retouching and Photo Manipulation Course
The Adobe Photoshop Retouching and Photo Manipulation Course is a structured, hands-on course designed to help students develop professional image-editing skills using Adobe Photoshop. As part of the broader Graphic Design & AI Certificate pathway, this course focuses on pixel-based workflows, visual refinement, image correction, compositing, and creative photo manipulation.
Students will learn how to use Photoshop as a professional design tool for editing, enhancing, and constructing images with clear visual intent. The course emphasizes technical control, non-destructive editing, visual consistency, and responsible use of AI-assisted features within the creative process.
Through guided exercises, project-based assignments, and live online instruction, students will build practical skills in retouching, masking, color correction, layer-based composition, and image manipulation. The course prepares students to create polished visual work that can be used in design projects, portfolios, marketing materials, and creative production.
Learning Outcomes
This program is structured around progressive development, integrating graphic design principles with AI-driven workflows. By the end of the program, students will be able to:
- Navigate the Adobe Photoshop interface and organize professional image-editing workflows.
- Identify appropriate image formats, resolution settings, and file preparation methods for digital and print use.
- Apply selection tools and masking techniques to isolate, edit, and combine visual elements.
- Use adjustment layers, color correction, and tonal controls to improve image quality and visual consistency.
- Perform retouching and image cleanup using non-destructive editing techniques.
- Construct layer-based photo compositions using images, masks, effects, and blending methods.
- Apply visual enhancements and effects to support specific creative or design goals.
- Integrate AI-assisted Photoshop tools into image editing and manipulation workflows with critical awareness.
- Evaluate edited images using design principles, technical quality, and professional presentation standards.
- Create a final Photoshop-based project that demonstrates technical skill, visual intention, and creative decision-making.

Course Overview
This course introduces students to Adobe Photoshop as a core tool for image editing, retouching, and photo manipulation. Students begin by learning the Photoshop workspace, file setup, image formats, and resolution. They then move into essential editing techniques, including selections, masking, layers, color correction, tonal adjustment, and image cleanup.
As the course progresses, students develop more advanced skills in compositing and visual manipulation. They learn to combine multiple images, control visual relationships, apply effects, and refine compositions to achieve professional results. The course also introduces AI-assisted image workflows, helping students understand how tools such as generative fill, content-aware editing, and AI-supported refinement can support creative production without replacing design judgment.
Note: This course aligns with the Graphic Design & AI Certificate Program by developing one of the central technical areas of contemporary design production: raster image editing. Students who complete this course can apply their Photoshop skills independently or continue into related courses in graphic design, Illustrator, InDesign, and AI-supported portfolio development.
Structure: 3 weeks, with weekly live online sessions, guided demonstrations, practice exercises, critique, and a final Photoshop project.
