Welcome to the Adobe InDesign Layouts and Digital Publishing Course

The Adobe InDesign Layouts and Digital Publishing Course is a structured, hands-on course designed to help students develop professional layout and digital publishing skills using Adobe InDesign. As part of the broader Graphic Design & AI Certificate pathway, this course focuses on organizing text, images, and visual assets into clear, polished, and professional design compositions.

Students will learn how to use InDesign as a professional tool for creating multi-page documents, brochures, portfolios, catalogs, reports, digital publications, and presentation-ready layouts. The course emphasizes page structure, grid systems, typography, visual hierarchy, image placement, paragraph and character styles, and export settings for print and digital formats.

Through guided exercises, project-based assignments, and live online instruction, students will build practical layout skills while learning how to make intentional design decisions. The course also introduces AI-supported workflows for planning content, refining layout ideas, improving text structure, and supporting the publishing process without replacing the designer’s judgment.

This program is structured around progressive development, integrating graphic design principles with AI-driven workflows. By the end of the program, students will be able to:

• Create and manage paragraph styles, character styles, master pages, and reusable layout elements.
• Place, crop, scale, and manage images within structured page compositions.
• Integrate Photoshop and Illustrator assets into InDesign layouts.
• Design multi-page documents for print, digital viewing, and portfolio presentation.
• Use AI-supported tools to assist with content planning, layout exploration, and design refinement.
• Export final documents in appropriate formats for print, digital publication, and professional presentation.
• Create a final InDesign-based layout project that demonstrates technical control, visual hierarchy, and professional design execution.

Course Overview

This course introduces students to Adobe InDesign as a core tool for layout design and digital publishing. Students begin by learning the InDesign workspace, document setup, page structure, margins, columns, bleeds, and basic layout organization. They then move into essential techniques such as working with text frames, image frames, typography, paragraph styles, character styles, grids, and visual hierarchy.

As the course progresses, students develop more advanced skills in multi-page document design. They learn how to combine text, images, and visual assets into cohesive layouts for brochures, portfolios, catalogs, reports, editorial spreads, and digital publications. Special attention is given to consistency, readability, alignment, spacing, and professional presentation.

The course also introduces AI-supported publishing workflows. Students explore how AI can help with content organization, layout planning, text refinement, and design iteration while maintaining control over the final visual decisions. The emphasis remains on structure, clarity, typographic quality, and professional execution.

Note: This course is aligned with the Graphic Design & AI Certificate Program because it develops one of the central technical areas of contemporary graphic design: layout systems and digital publishing. Students who complete this course can apply their InDesign skills independently or continue into related courses in graphic design foundations, Photoshop, Illustrator, and AI-supported portfolio development.

Structure: 3 weeks, with weekly live online sessions, guided demonstrations, practice exercises, critique, and a final InDesign layout project.

This section focuses on organizing visual and textual content into structured layout systems in Adobe InDesign. Students will learn how to combine assets created in Photoshop and Illustrator into cohesive compositions for print and digital formats.
